The group is composed of around 70 people from all around the world dedicated to the next steps in cocktail culture, insiders in the newest trends.
Aug. 2017: Have you been to the new mini-Las Vegas in Downtown Detroit? It's called Townhouse and it's quite the dining experience, right down to the neon and the highly conscious Detroit theme, which is handy in case you ever forget what city you're in. If you thought this new location would be anything at all like the old Birmingham spot, you were so, so, sooooooooooo wrong. One thing the two locations do have in common, though, is the much-applauded Townhouse Burger: 10oz of a proprietary blend of 28-day-aged steak cuts, prepared daily and hand-pattied to order, served on an "authentic Plugra butter brioche bun" (Psst, that’s a fancy European-style butter), and topped with bourbon-glazed onions and aged white cheddar. It just sounds sexy, you know? Plus, THAT PATIO.
Oct. 2016: It's our 25th anniversary of honoring 40 metro Detroit professionals who have made their marks before age 40. Meet this year's winners. If restaurateur Jeremy Sasson had a blueprint for success, it would be this: Identify what interests you, focus only on those things, and realize that castles are built brick by brick.
Aug. 2016: The Top 10 Takeover dining series visits Townhouse Detroit, which was named one of the Detroit Free Press/Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Best New Restaurants earlier this year. Townhouse is an unapologetic scene: upbeat, lively and loud — a place where empty bar seats are scarce, and multiple groups of 8 or 10 or more fill tables in the atrium to celebrate special occasions.
Aug. 2016: Come for the lively Sunday brunch party in this spot’s stunning 2,400-square-foot atrium, and don’t miss the namesake burger: a blend of 28-day-aged cuts topped with bourbon-glazed onions and white cheddar. Wash it down with Bell’s Oberon or a chaser from the bar’s sizable whiskey collection.
July, 2016: Detroit is on its way back from the brink and its revival is being led, in part, by the food and wine industry. Don't let the reputation scare you: It's one of the most vibrant, interesting and delicious places I've visited in years.
June, 2016: In Detroit, Townhouse finds its home in the One Detroit Center. With living walls and a greenhouse-style atrium, nice weather still attracts diners to the open-air patio. The 7,000-square-foot restaurant offers 18 draft beers plus a nitro and a cider tap.
May, 2016: Lively Townhouse is a popular spot for lunch and happy hour.
May, 2016: Best street-Level Window Seat: // City: TOWNHOUSE Detroit Best deck/Outdoor Seating: // City (Tie): La Dolce Vita, Detroit & TOWNHOUSE Detroit, Detroit // Suburb: TOWNHOUSE Bistro, Birmingham
May, 2016: For Chef Michael Barrera of Townhouse in Detroit, a creative take on a spicy condiment came as part of his search to create the ideal ranch dressing. Before landing on the Gochujang ranch, Barrera and his team tried out several variations — Sriracha, roasted chile peppers, blackened spices — but none worked quite like the Korean spice. “So the gochujang intrigued me,” Barrera says.
April, 2016: If there were awards for the year’s most extravagant new restaurant, the easy winner would be the 314-seat Townhouse Detroit, anchored by an all-glass atrium dining room with retractable walls and ceiling beside One Detroit Center at Woodward and Congress.
Jan. 2016: In the last year, more than three dozen new restaurants have opened, elevating Detroit to a bonafide dining destination; there's a vibrant art scene, including several new initiatives to bring public art to the citizens of Detroit; a rich history; and so many awesome bars that Esquire named it a top drinking city in 2014. Add it all together and you have a recipe for an exciting travel destination.
Nov. 2015: Townhouse adds a breath of fresh air to the Downtown scene, both literally — with its airy, year-round enclosed patio — and figuratively, thanks to its awesome burger. The 10-ounce patty is made with a proprietary blend of 28-day dry-aged prime brisket and rib eye (among other cuts) from a local butcher.
Oct. 2015: We've mentioned before that the new Townhouse Detroit is sort of like a Detroit-themed Las Vegas restaurant. But really, that patio. To put it simply, Townhouse is not a place. It is an experience.
Sept. 2015: Townhouse, where the whiskey list goes on for days and the glass-walled patio offers a front row seat to people-watch the action on Woodward Avenue. Find your favorite esoteric pour (small, medium or large), or try the tart and spiced “Eight Pointer," made with Old Grand Dad 114 Bourbon, lemon juice, ginger beer and orange, then garnished with peach slices.
Sept. 2015: Some of the newly added restaurants, including Chartreuse, El Barzón, Mario’s and Townhouse Detroit, will join returning favorites such as The Whitney, Roast, Cliff Bell’s and Cuisine for three-course dinners.
Aug. 2015: Big, lively, extravagant and over-the-top with bells and whistles, Townhouse could have slipped over the edge into gaudiness. But it didn’t. It’s substantial, classy, fun and well-designed, finished with quality materials and scores of little touches that show owner Jeremy Sasson’s impressive eye for detail.
Aug. 2015: The downtown version is big, bright and brash. It stands out on the cityscape like a colorful tropical bird in a flock of sparrows and it adds excitement to the thriving downtown restaurant scene...
August, 2015: Townhouse, the sequel to Jeremy Sasson’s popular eatery in the upscale suburb of Birmingham, had bowed on the ground floor of One Detroit Center over the weekend. The sprawling downtown space has a horseshoe-shaped bar at the entrance, with a whiskey room offering 300 pours behind that. The main dining room is an indoor-outdoor space with a retractable roof, and there’s plenty of al fresco seating along Congress Street and Woodward Avenue.
July, 2015: The upscale Townhouse restaurant and bar creates a buzz among office workers in downtown Detroit with its greehouse-style patio, a hard-to-miss sign outside and a Manhattan-like feel inside.
July, 2015: If you’re looking for a place to have a spirited cocktail steps from the Spirit of Detroit statue, look no further, as Townhouse has slipped into the prime location in the Ally Financial building (formerly the HQ of Comerica Bank) at the intersection of Woodward and Congress.
July, 2015: The wait is officially over for Townhouse Detroit, the bold new downtown eatery with a striking greenhouse-style dining room. Reservations are strongly recommended for the 314-seat restaurant, which swings open for lunch at 11 a.m. with the house specialty Townhouse burger, bibimbap, shrimp tacos, harissa falafel, and more.
July, 2015: It’s one of too few spots where you can feel the energy of this city, hemmed in by skyscrapers like the gorgeous Art Deco Guardian Building, and plenty of street-level pedestrian activity. It’s good urban design in a city with too little of it.
March, 2015: The restaurateur behind the Townhouse in downtown Birmingham, will open a new location with an atrium and an outdoor dining patio at One Detroit Center in downtown Detroit this summer, with future plans to open a location in Ann Arbor.
May, 2013: Townhouse is an upscale restaurant in the heart of downtown Birmingham that was recently voted best burger by Channel 4 and one of the best new restaurants by Hour Detroit and The Free Press, but none of us got the burger so I cannot comment on that. You will just have to go try the burger to find out how good it is yourself.
